How this calculation works
This fixed-year estimator uses your age on December 31, 2026 and the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table (Table III). For a supported owner age 73 or older, the adjusted December 31, 2025 IRA balance is divided by the table factor. The estimated annual amount is rounded up to the nearest cent; credited gross distributions are then subtracted, with the remainder floored at zero.
This covers one owner-held traditional, SEP or SIMPLE IRA and only 2026. It does not calculate inherited accounts, employer plans, annuity adjustments, beneficiary changes or the Joint and Last Survivor Table. Do not use it for later tax years. Confirm balances, permitted aggregation and credited payments with the custodian.
It estimates a gross required distribution, not its tax or withholding. Prior-year obligations, penalties and special relief are excluded. Source and table checked September 30, 2026: IRS Publication 590-B, Appendix B, Table III. Inherited accounts use separate IRS rules.
